(The Upstairs Downstairs tour of Edwardian England)
Become Lord or Lady Grantham for the day as we visit the film locations of the period drama Downton Abbey .... We will collect you from your Central London hotel, chauffeur drive you through London and out into the countryside to Highclere Castle, the setting for Downton. On route your guide will explain how life was for those that lived UPSTAIRS and those who lived DOWNSTAIRS.
We will explore the Castle, wander around the estate run by fictional character Lord Grantham and visit the 'Above Stairs' area of Downton Abbey where you'll enter the world of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants (no photos inside the castle) .
As we stroll in the wonderful gardens, your guide will explain the history of the series, and the 1000 year old Highclere Castle.
We then travel cross country to the village that became "Downton Village" where we lunch in a 300 yr old pub see the village sights.
Returning to London we carry on our Upstairs Downstairs theme and show you how the world of the landed gentry still exists today. Driving around London your guide will explain and show you a world that still exists for those who can afford it that goes unnoticed by most people. This fascinating insight into "The Olde World London" is a fabulous end to a fabulous day out.
